December 2015 News

Solway Skating Club thank Dolby Vivisol for their continued support! We have only recently returned from Belgium where we returned with podium places in an international European competition.

Our new season began back in August. Our three competition teams and one development team have all been working with new team configurations and learning their programs.

Solway Comets (our very youngest team and some as young as 6 years old) continue in their development role, learning about participating in a synchronized skating squad. They are coming on really well and are very enthusiastic!

Solway Stars are our most senior team. This season they continue in the highly competitive Junior B category and have had two programs to perfect.

Stars free program is to Alice in Wonderland from the Time Burton film of the same name. This is a fast paced routine with some very technically challenging elements. Solway Stars took part in the Wintercup in Gullegum, Belgium at the end of November and they won first place, after beating the current reigning Belgian Junior B Champions.

This year Solway Eclipse are skating in the Basic Novice section and they have also developed a new program, theirs is to the Puss in Boots music from Shrek, with a strong Spanish theme. They too competed at the Wintercup in Gullegem, Belgium in November against teams from Belgium, The Netherlands and from Germany. Eclipse performed very strongly and won silver medal places.

Needless to say, we were all delighted and fortunately the travel all went well without too much trouble after all the recent events.

The teams were bag packing in Morrisons this weekend to help raise funds towards the next competition costs, now only a few weeks away. Although we are really excited to have had such a strong start to the season, we are working hard towards taking part in the British Synchronized Skating Championships next month. Solway Lightning will be joining Stars and Eclipse on the trip to Nottingham and it is the first time that we have had three teams taking part in the British Championships - which is a fantastically exciting as well as challenging time for us as our club continues to grow and expand.

We are very much looking forward to this but the teams understandably have some nerves too. Both Solway Stars and Eclipse will be battling to retain their places as British Champions in their categories. All of our teams will therefore continue to work on through the Christmas holidays - although the teams are all looking forward to their Christmas party next weekend when Santa will come to visit them on his sledge on the ice!

Best Regards and warmest Christmas wishes,

From all at Solway Skating Club
